Leadership with Integrity.
Vision for the Future.
“I’m running for Benton County Supervisor to bring fresh perspective, transparency, and balanced leadership to our county. I believe in responsible property tax reform, protecting personal property rights, and ensuring county decisions reflect the values and needs of the people who live here. It's time for leadership that leads with integrity and represents the future of Benton County.”

About
Bethany Hantz (Gates) is a lifelong Iowan who has called Benton County home for 22 of the past 23 years. She lives in Atkins with her husband, Matt, and four of their seven children. A dedicated small business owner, Bethany runs her own midwifery practice and homeschools her school-age daughters — experiences that reflect her deep commitment to family, service, and community.
Since 2012, Bethany has been an active member of the Benton County Republican Party, serving in leadership roles including secretary, co-chair, and chair. She has also represented the county at the state level, serving two terms on the Republican Party of Iowa’s State Central Committee. Through these roles, she has built strong relationships and gained valuable experience in grassroots leadership and policy advocacy.
Bethany served on the Vinton City Council from 2021 to 2024, gaining practical experience managing public budgets, overseeing essential services, and working collaboratively with elected officials and staff. She is known for listening to constituents and pursuing policy solutions that benefit the community.
Since 2019, Bethany has also lobbied at the Iowa Capitol to improve maternity care access in rural areas like Benton County, which is considered a maternal healthcare desert. Her efforts helped lead to the passage of midwifery licensure legislation in 2023 and, in 2025, to the removal of outdated regulations that had prevented the opening of birth centers across the state.
As a business owner, Bethany understands the importance of fiscal discipline, effective leadership, and creating an environment that supports growth while respecting property rights. She believes county government should partner with property and business owners, not stand in their way.
Bethany and her family faithfully attend their church, and she enjoys reading, running, and playing board games with her kids. She has completed five marathons and brings that same endurance, determination, and focus to everything she does.
Now, Bethany is ready to bring her energy, integrity, and forward-thinking leadership to the Benton County Board of Supervisors — to represent the future of the county with honesty, transparency, and a deep commitment to the people who live here.

Integrity
Responsible Budgeting
Property Rights
Bethany believes that public service is a position of trust — and that trust must be earned and protected through transparency, honesty, and accountability. Her experience on the Vinton City Council proved that leadership means listening to constituents, standing firm on values, and doing the right thing even when it’s difficult. Bethany is committed to raising the standard of ethical leadership. She will work to ensure that all residents feel heard, respected, and confident that their elected officials are working for the public good — not personal or political gain.
Bethany has firsthand experience balancing a budget — at the kitchen table, in her business, and in public office. She knows every dollar the government spends comes out of a hardworking taxpayer’s pocket. On the Vinton City Council, she worked to make sure tax dollars were spent wisely and kept local government accountable. As Supervisor, she’ll take the same approach: limit waste, focus on core services, and fight for meaningful property tax relief. Bethany believes in a government that lives within its means — just like families have to.
Bethany knows that owning land is more than an investment — it’s a legacy. She strongly supports the rights of landowners, farmers, and business owners to use and manage their property without unnecessary government interference. As Supervisor, she’ll fight to ensure that county ordinances are clear, fair, and respect individual freedoms. Bethany believes in protecting Benton County’s rural character while allowing families and businesses to grow and thrive — on their own terms.
